Plot

In the haze of 2003, young soldier Tom Keys is tragically killed alongside five comrades during an ambush in the harsh deserts of Iraq. The news devastates his parents, former paramedic Reg and his wife Sally, who are horrified to discover that Tom and his fellow soldiers were ill-equipped and under-armed. This horrifying revelation pushes Sally into a debilitating spiral of alcohol-fuelled depression from which she never emerges. Reg, fuelled by disgusted indignation, points his finger directly at Tony Blair, the prime minister who tossed British troops into a contentious, possibly unlawful war. Reg's anger kindles a political flame, and he is persuaded by ex-Labour MP Bob Clay to challenge Blair directly in the 2005 election for the Sedgefield constituency. Leveraging his story, Reg garners support from high-profile figures like Martin Bell, Frederick Forsyth, and journalist Felicity Arbuthnot. His campaign, however, does not achieve its ultimate goal, and Blair retains the seat. Yet, this is not the end for Reg. He rallies and channels his energy into establishing the protest group 'Military Families Against the War'. His actions spark a ripple effect, inspiring other grieving families to seek justice, armed with lawyers and a resolve to bring evidence of an illegal conflict to the International Criminal Court. Reg's fight becomes a beacon of hope, a testament to the power of a single voice in the face of profound loss and political controversy.
