Blood Diamond (2006)

In 1999, a local fisherman called Solomon Vandy becomes unexpectedly embroiled in the middle of Sierra Leone’s fractious civil war when he’s captured by a rebel faction and forced to work in the mines. The diamonds he digs up are sold on the lucrative international market to perpetuate the conflict that’s destroying his home. After escaping from the clutches of his captors, Vandy finds unexpected allies in mercenary Danny Archer and journalist Maddy Bowen. Fueled by the desire to be reunited with his family, Vandy also agrees to bring evidence of the illegal blood diamonds to the attention of the outside world in an effort to hasten the end of the war.
