Plot

After many years of living in the vibrant city of London, Orhan Sahin, a skilled writer and editor, finds himself drawn back to the mysterious heart of Istanbul. He returns to his homeland, not for leisure, but to assist Deniz Soysal, a renowned director, in crafting his debut book. Deniz, along with his family, resides in a once resplendent mansion by the Bosphorus, a place that now echoes with the whispers of a fading grandeur. Orhan, an outsider in his own city, soon plunges headfirst into the labyrinthine world of Deniz's family. He becomes entangled in a web of complex relationships, inscrutable acquaintances, and enigmatic family dynamics. The mansion, once a symbol of power and prestige, loses its luster, reflecting the family's dwindling fortunes and the shadows that loom over their lives. As Orhan navigates through this intricate maze, he begins to see Istanbul through a new lens, an intriguing vista of forgotten emotions and rediscovered sentiments. This film, a masterful creation by Ferzan Ozpetek, marks his triumphant return to Turkish cinema after a considerable hiatus. Based on his own novel of the same name, "Red Istanbul" is a captivating blend of personal exploration and cultural rediscovery, set against the hauntingly beautiful backdrop of a city caught between its glorious past and an uncertain future.
