Plot

In the heart of Victorian London, two aristocratic friends, George, the 10th Duke of Bristol, and Richard Halton, find themselves drowning in the same boat of insolvency. George is compelled to rent his grand castle to vivacious American socialite, Helen Hale, while Richard, smitten by the wealthy and widowed Maria Wislack, is trapped in the throes of unrequited love. Maria, perceived by George as a stern and domineering shrew, surprisingly reciprocates Richard's affections. In a daring proposition, Maria suggests a month-long sojourn to her secluded mansion on a desolate Scottish island to test the waters of their compatibility. Richard, bound by the norms of propriety, must undertake a nightly journey to the mainland, rowing back each morning to continue their unconventional courtship. Meanwhile, George and Helen, driven by their own hidden agendas, decide to accompany the pair. George, yearning for the luxury of Maria's mansion and the service of her staff, and Helen, nursing a secret affection for George, eagerly join the expedition. However, fate throws a curveball, and the quartet find themselves marooned in the mansion without the comfort of servants. As the days turn into weeks, hidden feelings rise to the surface, triggering intricate schemes and rivalries. The month-long experiment transforms into a hothouse of emotions, revealing true desires and sparking a series of humorous, romantic fireworks. "On Approval" cleverly weaves a tale of love, class, and the comedy that ensues when two wealthy widows and two penniless aristocrats tentatively explore the path of courtship under unconventional circumstances. This flirtation with love and luxury in a time of austerity promises to keep viewers enthralled till the last scene.
