Plot

In the face of brutal oppression, Kalushi: The Story of Solomon Mahlangu unfolds, an intense narrative about a young township schoolboy-turned-hawker, Solomon Mahlangu. After enduring a savage beating by the police, he is propelled into exile, following the cataclysmic events of the 1976 Soweto uprisings. His spirit unbroken, he joins the liberation movement and becomes a formidable force in the military wing of the ANC, battling against the iron fist of the Apartheid regime. After receiving military training in Angola, he returns, mission-bound, with his comrade, Mondy. However, their journey takes a tragic turn when Mondy, in a moment of loss control, inadvertently shoots two innocents on the bustling streets of Johannesburg. Brutally tortured and beaten, Mondy becomes an unwilling pawn in the ruthless game of law, and Kalushi is thrust into a battle for justice in a courtroom, where he stands trial under the chilling common purpose doctrine. The state, relentless and unforgiving, demands the harshest of punishments - death by hanging. With his back against the wall, Kalushi transforms the courtroom into his final battlefield, locking horns with the very system that seeks to crush them. His heroic stand and ultimate sacrifice etch his name into the annals of history, immortalizing him as an enduring symbol of resistance and a national icon of South African youth who dared to rise against the tyranny of Umkhonto we Sizwe. Kalushi's story is a testament to the indomitable spirit of liberation, a beacon of rebellion against brutal injustice.
