The Day of the Triffids (1981)

In the wake of an awe-inspiring yet catastrophic celestial event, the world plunges into a chilling darkness. A radiant comet, trailing a dazzling spectacle of debris, has swept across the Earth's night sky, leaving a trail of irreversible blindness in its wake. Unseen by Bill Masen due to a twist of fate, he awakens to an altered existence, a world shrouded in sightless terror, where he initially thinks himself the sole survivor blessed with vision. However, he soon crosses paths with Jo Pleyton, a fellow sighted survivor. As the days morph into an unending nightmare, they encounter more individuals spared by the celestial show. United by circumstance and the will to survive, they envision a new future, a beacon of hope in a world devoid of light. But a monstrous menace lurks in the shadow of their plans. The Triffids, once docile, carnivorous plants confined to zoos and farms, have broken free, developing an insatiable hunger for decaying human flesh. The sightless majority of humanity is defenseless against the lethal lash of the Triffids, becoming easy prey to these green grim reapers. The question that haunts the survivors: Can they keep this vegetative terror at bay, or will they too fall victim to the Day of the Triffids?
