Gandhi (1982)

After forcing the South African government to recognize the rights of Indians through non-violent protests, Mohandas K. Gandhi, a lawyer, arrived in India as a hero and was asked to lead the fight against the British for Indian independence. Gandhi agrees and this film documents all the violence and repression the British used to fight the non-violent movement for independence. After years of effort, Britain agrees to give India its freedom but divides the country setting the stage for years of strife between India and Pakistan. Gandhi tries to bring about peace but is assassinated by one of his own followers who thinks he is favoring Pakistan.

Gandhi is a drama movie featuring Ben Kingsley and directed by Richard Attenborough.
