Plot

In the shadowy folds of the 19th century, a grief-stricken man turns to an ominous necromancer in a desperate attempt to breathe life back into his lifeless wife. The necromancer warns him of the perilous nature of his request, urging him to lend an ear to the tale of a man named Haeckel before making his choice. Ernst Haeckel, an audacious medical student, finds himself entranced by the enigmatic dance between life and death, and the tantalizing promise of resurrection. His path intertwines with the mysterious necromancer Montesquino, a man who boasts of his power to awaken the departed. However, a grim notice concerning his father's fatal illness propels him away from his studies and on a journey homeward. On his way, he prepares for a night's rest near a graveyard, only to be dissuaded by an elderly man named Wolfram who offers him refuge in his home, advising him against the folly of slumbering alongside the dead. Haeckel finds himself drawn into Wolfram's world and bewitched by his enchanting young wife, Elise. Yet as he delves deeper, Haeckel soon stumbles upon a chilling secret cloaked in the couple's shadow, serving as a stark reminder of the darkness lurking within the pursuit of resurrecting the dead.
