Dead Kids (1981)

In the quaint, tight-knit town of Galesburg, Illinois, widower John Brady dutifully serves as the Chief of Police, a role that intertwines his personal life with the town's secrets. His son, Pete, a promising high school senior, is the light of his life, the beacon that guided him out of the darkness that shrouded him after his wife Catherine's mysterious death. Her demise, he's convinced, is tied to her former boss, Dr. Le Sange, who himself met an untimely end soon after Catherine's departure. Their family life, recently steadied by John's budding romance with Barbara Moorehead, a warm waitress at the local hotspot, is about to be uprooted once again. John's world teeters on the edge of chaos as he is thrust into the investigation of a series of chilling, brutal murders that have left the town in terror. Four of its citizens have been gruesomely slain, their connections to John stretching beyond mere friendship. The victims are sons of his old comrades, stirring up ghosts from John's past and spurring fears for Pete's safety. When an eyewitness account offers the only tangible evidence before the witness herself falls prey, John is left grappling with the horrifying possibility that his son could be the next in line. Unbeknownst to John, Pete, in an effort to pad his pockets, has been working at nearby Galesburg College's Psychology Department under Mrs. Gwen Parkinson. This innocuous endeavor unknowingly entangles Pete in a deadly web, not as the next victim, but as a crucial link in the chain leading to the impending murder. As the town's tranquility crumbles and personal connections to the killings surface, John must unravel this chilling mystery before it strikes too close to home.
