Ghosts of Mars (2001)

In the distant reaches of the cosmos, 200 years in the future, the tenacious intergalactic cop Melanie Ballard (Natasha Henstridge) and her stalwart team are tasked with the high-stakes transfer of the notorious criminal, Desolation Williams (Ice Cube). Their mission leads them across the interstellar void to the remote city of Chryse on the enigmatic Red Planet, Mars, where Williams is to be incarcerated. Unbeknownst to them, an adjacent mining team has inadvertently awakened an ancient Martian defense mechanism, unearthing the warrior ghosts of Mars' original inhabitants. These spectral defenders, imbued with a vengeful rage, possess the unsuspecting miners, transforming them into vessels of their wrath. Upon reaching the outpost, Ballard and her team are met with eerie silence and a city seemingly void of life. The sinister truth gradually unfolds as they uncover the chilling reality of the possessed inhabitants, now the puppet soldiers of the ghostly martian warriors. In a twisted turn of fate, Ballard and her team, including the hardened criminal Williams, must put aside their differences and unite against a common enemy. As they fight for their survival, they are plunged into a terrifying struggle against an ancient force hell-bent on purging their planet of all human life. The barren landscapes of Mars become their battlefield, and survival their only hope in this cosmic game of cat and mouse.
