Plot

In the closing year of the 20th century, the sprawling scientific colony of Moonbase Alpha, cradled in the lunar crater of Plato, stands as a testament to Earth's technological prowess and commitment to safeguarding its environment. Overseeing the containment silos of atomic waste transported from Earth and stashed away on the Moon's obscure flank, these guardians of the globe experience an unforeseen catastrophe on September 13, 1999. An abrupt surge of magnetic energy triggers a devastating chain-reaction within the waste, igniting an explosion that catapults the Moon out of Earth's gravitational hold and beyond the plane of the ecliptic. The Moon, now adrift, carries its unwilling passengers - the inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha - into the unfathomable depths of the cosmos, far from the familiar path of the Solar System. Stripped of the possibility to return home, they must adapt to survive on their roving lunar vessel as they are thrust further into uncharted territories by unpredictable space warps. Their solitary journey through the galaxy takes an unexpected turn as they are joined by an enigmatic alien woman. Endowed with the extraordinary ability to metamorphose into any living creature at will, she adds an additional layer of mystery to their epic odyssey. Space: 1999 is an extraordinary tale of survival, exploration, and the unyielding human spirit amidst the stark, ethereal beauty of the cosmos.
