Plot

In the heart of a bustling European city, circa 1930, resided Lisa Koslov, an innocent young woman passionately studying piano at the city's esteemed music conservatory. Finding herself alone for the first time, without her mother's counsel to navigate the sophisticated advances of an older man, she finds herself entangled in an unexpected situation. This man is none other than the celebrated composer, conductor and pianist, Michael Michailow, who cunningly uses his charm to draw her into his world. During an evening at a cabaret, the pair are spotted by the club's veteran singer, Vera Kowalska. Before Lisa and Michael can make their exit, Vera fires a fatal shot at Michael, admitting to the murder in her trial but refusing to divulge the reasons that led to her actions. As Lisa stands among the witnesses, ready to testify against Vera, a mysterious locked case, believed to hold evidence, emerges. Intriguingly, Vera decides to give a complete confession but under two conditions: the case remains unopened and her testimony is heard in a closed court. As she unravels her complex past with Michael, dating back to her starring role in his opera in 1912, it becomes apparent that her motives extended beyond a personal grudge. Her decision to confess in a closed court intended to shield the innocent from a devastating secret, hinting at another spectator in the courtroom who shared a past encounter with Vera. This 1937 film, "Confession", is a riveting exploration of love, betrayal, and the lengths one will go to protect the innocent.
