At Home in Mitford (2017)

In the throes of writer's block and still nursing the wounds of her failed marriage, celebrated children's author and illustrator, Cynthia Coppersmith, decides to seek refuge in the quaint town of Mitford. Accompanied by Violet, her magical cat and the protagonist of her popular book series, she hopes to draw inspiration from her childhood summer haven and fulfill the looming forty-five day manuscript deadline set by her editor, James. Cynthia plans to stay in her late uncle's cottage, a place she's tasked to prepare for sale before returning to the hustle and bustle of Boston. Upon her arrival, Cynthia finds herself enveloped in the warm embrace of Mitford's community, their familiarity with her stemming from her uncle's fond tales about her. The big city girl soon forms an unexpected friendship with her neighbor, Tim Kavanaugh, the town's scooter-riding, eligible bachelor, who also happens to be the local episcopal minister. As Cynthia and Tim navigate their budding connection, misunderstandings create a delicate dance of unspoken feelings. Cynthia, unsure about moving on after her recent heartbreak and especially with a minister, suspects Tim might already be involved with a mysterious woman frequently seen at his house. Meanwhile, Tim grapples with the knowledge of Jack Emery, a suave Atlanta real estate agent temporarily in Mitford for business, who is openly vying for Cynthia's affections. While their personal sorrows and uncertainties threaten to keep them apart, they find common ground in caring for a withdrawn ten-year-old boy named Dooley, left under his grandfather's guardianship as his military parents serve overseas. Amidst this, they also deal with an affectionate stray dog that has adopted Tim as its new owner. In the heart of small-town Mitford, amidst the struggles of writer's block, property sales, and heartbreak, Cynthia and Tim are confronted with an unexpected opportunity for love. They must summon the courage to overcome their pasts and embrace the faith required to seize this chance at happiness that life has thrown their way.
