Plot

In the bustling city of Bhopal, India, a humble rickshaw driver named Dilip lands a job at the imposing Union Carbide plant. Seeing this as an opportunity to wrestle his family out of the jaws of poverty, he endures gruelling hours and harsh conditions, while a veil of desperation hangs heavy over every worker intent on clinging to their paycheck. Dilip, however, begins to notice the plant's managers turning a blind eye to safety standards, a silent malady creeping in the shadows. Meanwhile, Dilip's long-time friend, Motwani, a tabloid journalist, is haunted by the constant complaints of Bhopal's residents about the perpetual stench in the air and the choking gas that invades their dreams. He firmly believes that a deadly time bomb is ticking within his beloved city. Despite feeling like a solitary voice in the wilderness, hope blossoms when he crosses paths with an audacious American journalist, Eva. He persuades her to challenge Carbide's executive, Warren Anderson, and together, they begin to peel back the layers of Carbide's ominous activities. While this investigative saga unfolds, Dilip diverts all his energy and resources into planning his sister's wedding. The night of the celebration arrives, radiating joy and unity as two families merge under the starlit sky. But as the music pulses, an invisible nemesis seeps through the town and the jubilant wedding party. The gargantuan tower of the Carbide plant belches poisonous gas into the night, and one by one, the guests crumble, unknowingly written into history as victims of the world's most devastating chemical disaster. Fast forward nearly three decades later, the ghostly remains of the plant loom over Bhopal, a grim reminder of the tragedy that claimed almost 15,000 lives and injured over 100,000. The water remains poisoned, and the city continues to mourn one death per day. Eva, now seasoned and resolute, confronts the retired Anderson. Will he finally concede and apologize? Or will he persist in denying Carbide's role in the catastrophe? The film chronicles this poignant journey of survival, resilience, and the quest for justice, embodying the spirit of a city forever changed by an industrial calamity.
