Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows (1968)

In the heart of the 1960s, where tradition clashes with progressive ideals, resides the St. Francis Academy for Girls. At the helm is Mother Superior Simplicia, a bastion of conventional values, presiding over her kingdom for two decades. However, the winds of change blow through the academy's corridors with the arrival of Sister George, a young, forward-thinking nun who echoes the spirit of the rebellious teenage students she teaches. Among her charges are the fiery Rosabelle, a whip-smart mischief-maker, and her loyal sidekick, Marvel Ann. These two worlds collide when Sister George proposes an audacious plan: to take a select group of students on a cross-country journey to a multi-faith, co-ed rally in Santa Barbara, California. Unhappily for Mother Superior, the Bishop, eager to usher the academy into the changing world, approves the trip. Despite failing to meet the trip's criteria, the dynamic duo - Rosabelle and Marvel Ann - somehow manage to join the expedition, setting the stage for a 3,000-mile adventure teeming with chaos and camaraderie. As the academy's bus rumbles across America, it becomes a crucible of colourful encounters and unexpected detours. From troublesome bus malfunctions to an intriguing stopover at a boys' Catholic school run by Father Chase, the journey is anything but ordinary. The group's visit to a Western dude ranch owned by the eccentric millionaire, Mr. Farriday, leads to an unexpected brush with a flamboyant director filming a Western, escalating the drama further. As if this weren't enough, a gang of intimidating bikers adds a dash of danger to their escapade. Through the tumultuous trip, Mother Superior and Sister George must navigate the rough seas of their ideological differences, the students' antics, and the unpredictable course of the journey. As the bus inches towards Santa Barbara, they either risk turning on each other or find common ground in their shared dedication to the academy. The ultimate question lingers: will the trip tear the academy apart or reimagine its relevance in a rapidly changing world?
