Plot

In the bustling heart of 1967 Buenos Aires, an eight-year-old boy named Valentín carries dreams as vast as outer space in his tender heart, while he navigates the complexities of his broken family. Living with his impoverished, widowed grandmother, Valentín yearns for the maternal love he hasn't felt since he was three, despite the harsh reality of his mother's alleged infidelity. His father, Vincente, an absent figure and a wandering salesman, tends to his romantic escapades more than his familial responsibilities, leaving Valentín to fend for himself. A dreamer among the stars, Valentín aspires to become an astronaut. He devotes his time to crafting rocket models, simulating zero gravity in heavy shoes, and holding his breath underwater. His unflinching determination remains unfazed by the slight cross-eyed and near-sightedness he suffers, seeing these not as hindrances but mere stepping stones on his path to touching the stars. However, beneath his interstellar dreams, Valentín unknowingly craves the warmth of a nuclear family. He yearns for a father figure at home and a mother's love, the latter he sees manifested in Leticia, his father's newest girlfriend. In the absence of a stable male influence, Valentín seeks out substitutes. From his visiting Uncle Chiche to Rufo, the bohemian pianist living next door, he learns life lessons that help him decipher the intricate tapestry of his existence. "Valentín" is a heartfelt tale of a young boy's courageous journey of self-discovery amidst the tumultuous backdrop of his dysfunctional family. Armed with an uncanny ability to solve the problems he perceives, Valentín finds new understandings that reconcile the past's bitter truths with the present's complicated realities. His story is a testament to the resilience of youthful innocence, the power of dreams, and the unyielding quest for love and belonging.
