Deep Impact (1998)

This movie follows an ensemble cast as a world-ending asteroid is set for a collision path with Earth. Information about the asteroid, which was discovered by amateur astronomer Leo Biederman, is first discovered by reporter Jenny Lerner. Lerner gets to play a prominent role in sharing information about the asteroid with the public. A subsequent space mission takes place in which a group of astronauts is given nuclear-armed missiles and set with the task of planting the bombs on the asteroid with the hope of destroying the asteroid before it can reach Earth.
