Plot

In the twilight of their years, the vivacious Nina (Barbara Sukowa) and the charming Madeleine (Martine Chevallier) share a profound secret. To the world, including Madeleine's intrusive daughter (Léa Drucker), they appear as two ordinary pensioners, merely neighbors connected by a shared hallway in their quaint apartment building. Yet this hallway is more than just a passage; it serves as a clandestine bridge between two contrasting worlds. One world is inhabited by a doting grandmother, wrapped in the comforting familiarity of widowhood. The other is embraced by a free-spirited woman, yearning to spend her remaining years with the one she loves. Beneath the mundane facade, Nina and Madeleine have been entwined in a deep, passionate love, hidden from prying eyes for decades. They mirthfully dance between their separate apartments, sharing the sweet, tender moments of a secret life lived in unison. This delicate balance is abruptly disrupted when an unforeseen event locks the gateway between their worlds. Their clandestine love, now teetering on the edge of exposure, faces the ultimate test. The truth, like a chess piece, begins its slow, inevitable advance under the watchful gaze of Madeleine's daughter. Can their love endure the strain of revelation, or will it crumble under the weight of a world that might not understand? Two of Us (2020) is a compelling exploration of love, secrecy, and the courage it takes to truly live authentically.
