Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)

This film is based on the novel by Fannie Flagg “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café”. It follows the relationship of an energetic older woman and a young, unhappy housewife. They meet in a nursing home and the older woman tells stories about how her unusual friends and relations lived in the 1920s and 1930s in the small town of Whistle Stop where the Alabama railroad line regularly stops. The stories are inspiring and amusing and help bring the housewife out of her depression. Some of the stories are so outlandish, the housewife wonders if they are true or from the woman’s imagination.
