The Scarlet Letter (1995)

In the stern religious confines of 17th-century New England, the winds of change herald the arrival of a woman named Hester Prynne (Demi Moore). She sails from the shores of England, carrying the hope of independence and the promise of a new life with her elderly husband, Dr. Roger Prynne (Robert Duvall), who is yet to join her. Her striking intelligence and fierce independence are quickly noticed, stirring a tempest of emotions among the Puritan villagers. Chillingworth embarks on a sinister quest to uncover Hester's lover's identity, stirring the pot of paranoia and fears of witchcraft that already simmers in the village. Will he succeed in his vengeful pursuit, or will love and innocence prevail in this tale of passion, betrayal, and resilience?
