The Parson and the Outlaw (1957)

In the gritty landscapes of the Wild West, renowned outlaw Billy the Kid, played by Anthony Dexter, fakes his own demise with the aid of his friend, Marshal Pat Garrett, portrayed by Bob Duncan. Having promised to abandon his gunslinging ways, Billy leaves his notorious reputation behind, adopting a new identity and seeking a peaceful life in a remote frontier town. His tranquility, however, is short-lived as he soon crosses paths with the ruthless empire-builder Colonel Morgan, enacted by Robert Lowery, and his top gun, the formidable Jack Slade, embodied by Sonny Tufts. Believing himself the last standing top gunfighter with Billy's supposed demise, Slade's fury knows no bounds when he discovers the truth. He becomes embroiled in Colonel Morgan's iron-fisted rule, amplifying the terror that grips the innocent townsfolk. Amidst this turmoil, Billy finds an unlikely ally in the form of the preacher Jericho Jones, portrayed by Charles 'Buddy' Rogers, who, aware of Billy's true identity and past, pleads with him to stand against Morgan's tyranny. Despite the pleas from Jones, newspaper editor Elly McCloud, played by Madalyn Trahey, and her romantic rival Tonya, brought to life by Marie Windsor, Billy resists, struggling to stay true to his promise of a peaceful life. However, when Jones falls victim to Morgan's henchmen, Billy is forced to reconsider, his resolve wavering. The quiet frontier town becomes a powder keg waiting to explode, as Billy finds himself on the precipice of strapping on his guns one more time in a desperate fight for justice. The once peaceful outlaw must decide if he's willing to risk it all, returning to his past to save a future he's just begun to embrace.
