High Plains Drifter (1973)

In the dusty embrace of the Wild West, the once tranquil mining town of Lago, named for its nearby lake, finds its lethargy shattered by the arrival of an enigmatic stranger (Clint Eastwood). Within moments of his arrival, the stranger demonstrates his mettle, confronting the town's reigning gun champions in an uneven duel that leaves them dead. His prowess with a gun leaves the townsfolk in awe, compelling them to implore him to stay, especially with the news of the imminent release of three fearsome outlaws from prison, men who once held the town in a vice of terror. Haunted by the ghost of Marshal Jim Duncan (Buddy Van Horn), a weakling who fell victim to the outlaws' whip years ago, the stranger is a storm of vengeance waiting to be unleashed. As the outlaws and the stranger draw closer to their inevitable clash, the townspeople of Lago, caught in the crossfire, must confront their dark past.
