In the vast American landscape stretching from Chicago to San Diego, a young man named Jim Halsey (C. Thomas Howell) embarks on a journey, delivering a car to its new owner. His life takes a chilling turn when he opens the door of hospitality to a seemingly benign hitchhiker, John Ryder (Rutger Hauer), unaware of the storm of horror that's about to unfold. Ryder, a cunning and relentless predator, with an uncanny taste for murder, begins a deadly game of cat and mouse.
