Plot

In the heart of Berlin, 1927, we meet Harry Frommermann, a destitute yet gifted musician fervently penning his own compositions and yearning for his break into the limelight. As he frequents a local store, losing himself in the latest vinyl records, he remains blissfully unaware of the tender affection held for him by Erna, a young store attendant. Economic desperation brings a pivotal moment when Harry can no longer afford even the humblest meal for his beloved parrot. Spurred into action, he places an advertisement in the local newspaper, seeking companionship in the creation of a unique singing group. This venture leads him to Robert Biberti, a kindred spirit with whom he shares an immediate rapport. The duo soon expands, welcoming four more like-minded souls into their creative ensemble, and thus, the rehearsal of their musical escapades begins. "Comedian Harmonists" chronicles the rise and fall of this legendary German male sextet, a melodic mix of five vocals and piano, from their initial meeting in 1927 to an abrupt halt in 1934. Their harmonious journey is disrupted by the shadow of the looming Nazis, who prohibit their performances due to the Jewish heritage of three members. This compelling tale intertwines the power of music, the strength of friendship, and the harsh reality of a society on the brink of monumental change, painting a vibrant picture of resilience and artistry in the face of adversity.
