The Elephant Man (1980)

"The Elephant Man" is the cruel name given to Joseph Merrick. Merrick has long suffered from a severe form of elephantitis, and he's both marketed as a monster in the freak show where he performs and treated like one by the sadistic carnival owner. But when he's discovered by surgeon Frederick Treves, he realizes that a gentle soul and sharp mind exist within Merrick's deformed body. Treves offers Merrick the opportunity to be paid and treated humanely in return for being examined at a London hospital. Is the doctor sincere, or is he merely another person looking to exploit Merrick?
