The Great Dictator (1940)

The fictional nation of Tomainia was on the losing coalition of World War I, but their loss only allowed spite and bitterness to breed. Now under the control of a ruthless dictator Adenoid Hynkel, Tomaina has become a fascist Aryan state committed to the extermination of the Jewish people. A young barber initially seems to earn protection for the Jewish ghetto, but it turns out that it's just a ploy by Hynkel to expand his power. In a parody of World War II's geopolitics, the Jewish barber ends up being mistaken for Hynkel and is given a microphone to speak to the whole world.
