In the wake of a tragic car accident that claims the lives of their affluent parents, siblings Rhett and Ruby Baker find themselves orphaned and thrust into a new, unfamiliar world. By testamentary decree, they're ushered into the sleek, modernistic Malibu beach house of their erstwhile neighbors, Terrence 'Terry' and Erin Glass. Meanwhile, their hefty $4 million trust fund is entrusted to the family's estate lawyer, Begleiter. Rhett, the younger sibling, is easily placated by an influx of dazzling video games and expensive toys, an opulent lifestyle quite unlike what they've known. Ruby, on the other hand, initially captivated by Terry's eloquent eulogy at their parents' funeral, begins to notice a shift in the atmosphere. The once comforting neighbors now seem shrouded with unsettling peculiarity, with Terry's behavior bordering on the flirtatious, and Erin's sporadic disappearances suggesting a sinister secret. As Ruby delves deeper into their new guardians' lives, she uncovers the dire financial straits Terry's failing firm finds itself in, and Erin's alarming drug dependency.
