The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008)

Jared Grace is not happy to be moving to his eccentric great-great uncle's house, especially since his father has opted not to join the rest of the family in the country. The house is even creepier than he'd imagined, with jars of tomato sauce and honey everywhere and odd scuffling noises coming from the walls. On the first night there, Jared discovers a mysterious book that appears to have been penned by the infamous uncle himself. Upon reading it, he learns that there are mysterious creatures living in the forest all around--and some of them are after the book.
