Plot

In the underbelly of French politics, when an activist is brutally murdered and a police officer slain, Chief Inspector Verjeat is convinced that the guilt extends beyond the hired thug to the conniving politician, Lardatte, who orchestrated the deed. Verjeat's relentless pursuit of justice brings him into conflict with his superiors, his dogged determination earning him a stern warning. His zealous quest for truth takes an unexpected turn when he humiliates Lardatte during a tense hostage situation involving the deceased activist's father. This public embarrassment results in a punitive transfer, threatening to dissolve Verjeat's hunt for justice. But the clock ticking towards his imminent relocation only fuels his resolve. With the aid of Lefévre, his ambitious young detective, Verjeat concocts an intricate plan to buy them more time. The question remains: How will Verjeat navigate the treacherous waters of honor and duty in a world where corruption runs deep? This captivating tale of justice versus corruption unfolds in the heart of France, where every second could tip the scale between truth and deceit.
