Dear John (2010)

South Carolina special ops soldier John is on leave from a German base, intent on visiting his father. On the pier, he befriends Savannah, a college student,and her friends, a dying man and his son. John falls in love with Savannah, who figures out John's father is autistic. While John initially decides not to re-enlist, 9/11 has him change his mind. Savannah writes him letters, but does not want to wait for him, so she gets involved with an old flame. Determined to not give up on her, John tries to salvage their relationship. Can he do that?
