Invictus (2009)

This true story of South African civil rights leader Nelson Mandela turns its attention to Mandela's unique relationship with South Africa's rugby team. As the recently elected leader of a country with fractious and fresh racial scars, Mandela recognizes the need for allies. Rugby team captain Francois Pienaar might seem like an unlikely ally, but both hope that the universal appeal of the sport can help heal the country and overcome the difficulties that came from the dismantling of apartheid. But not everyone wants peace, and the racial scars from South Africa's history run deep thanks to decades of apartheid.
