Plot

The night was far spent when Geoffrey Lascelles, a man still steeped in the lingering haze of liquor, staggered home from an opulent banquet honouring his engagement to Violet Manning. His late-night tranquility is abruptly shattered by the unexpected arrival of Simpson, a peculiar Englishman with an eccentric interest in archaeology and the occult. Simpson presents Geoffrey with an unusual gift; an ancient Egyptian mummy, a relic of a bygone era. Despite his initial irritation at this uncanny offering, Geoffrey grudgingly allows the mummy to remain in his apartment for the night. As the moon ascends, Geoffrey is plagued by an extraordinary dream, one where the mummy's casket surrenders a mesmerizing secret: a stunningly beautiful young girl. This is not just any girl, but Ameuset, a princess from the depths of ancient Egyptian history, resplendent in all her royal grandeur. Overwhelmed and intrigued, Geoffrey welcomes the princess into his apartment for the night, leading to a series of comically amusing situations as she grapples with the intricacies of modern life, from the enigma of pajamas to the mystique of telephones, matches, and cigars. In a surprising twist, Ameuset harbors a grudge against Simpson and plots to poison him, a scheme that culminates in an uproarious misunderstanding involving table salt mistaken for a deadly toxin. Amidst the mayhem, Geoffrey manages to return the princess to his dwelling, where he is abruptly awakened from his remarkable dream. However, the reverberations of his nocturnal adventure threaten to unravel his relationship with Violet, as the echoes of Ameuset's royal charm linger in reality. "The Dust of Egypt"—a once six-reel spectacle—now exists only as fragmented footage and a smattering of photographs. This summary weaves together these surviving pieces, providing a tantalizing glimpse into a captivating tale of romance, intrigue, and the clash of ancient and modern worlds.
