The Two Popes (2019)

The dramatic true story of the Papal transition of power in 2012 involves a crisis of what the Catholic Church actually represented. When Cardinal Bergoglio requested that the then-current Pope allow him to retire, he's surprised to find that the Pope invites him to the Vatican instead. Bergoglio's personal reservations about the direction of the search come in conflict with the philosophies of Pope Benedict in intimate discussion, and it forces them to address their role in the Church's ongoing existence as well as the role the Church has played in making them the men that they have become.
