Charlie Wilson's War (2007)

It's the 1980s, and Charlie Wilson is believed to be too much of a rascal and a womanizer to be more than a small-time congressman from an inconsequential district. But he leverages his position on both covert-ops and foreign policy committees to accomplish a monumental task: offer aid to forces in Afghanistan fighting back against the Soviet occupation of their country. Charlie is surprisingly effective at finding ways to supply weapons to the mujaheddin, but the lessons learned in Vietnam two decades prior remain. The war is a tangled quagmire, and Charlie's actions can have geopolitical effects that reach across decades.
