Terribly Happy (2008)

Emerging from the shadows of Copenhagen's law enforcement, Robert Hansen, a cop who faltered, finds himself exiled for therapy, only to be dispatched to an obscure town in South Jutland. Here, secrets sink into the mud as easily as the town's cows. Robert soon crosses paths with Jørgen, the town tyrant known for his cruel treatment of his wife, who, like Robert, is an outsider in this close-knit community. Robert's attempt to encourage her to report Jørgen's abuses takes an unexpected turn when she begins to flirt with him. When a sudden death shakes the town and an innocent person is accused, Robert finds himself in the crossfire, trying to curb the town's thirst for vigilante justice. As the situation spirals, Robert is torn between his desire to shield Jørgen's daughter and his yearning to reconnect with his own child back in the city. With the weight of rural justice on his shoulders, Robert wonders if this is his one-way ticket back to Copenhagen or if there's a chance for him to carve out a sliver of happiness in this peculiar town.
