Plot

This dark satirical comedy, based partially on a 1958 novel, takes on the mad logic of the Cold War nuclear arms race. The fate of the entire world rests upon the paranoid and insane mutterings of US Air Force General Jack Ripper. Convinced of a dark Communist conspiracy to pollute the American water supply, Ripper orders the country’s nuclear bomber arsenal to retaliate against the USSR, which, unknown to everyone, will trigger a doomsday device capable of destroying the entire world. Back in the war room of the Pentagon, General Buck Turgidson and Dr. Strangelove prepare for the prospect that they may not succeed in recalling the bombers in time.
