Plot
Michael Dorsey is a struggling actor who can't get hired because he's difficult to work with. His friend Sandy auditions for a role in a soap opera, and when she doesn't get the part, Michael dresses in drag as "Dorothy Michaels" and auditions himself. Dorothy ends up being hugely successful. This complicates Michael's relationship with Sandy, his roommate, and his costars as he continues to lead this double life.
