Plot

In the sun-drenched yet shadowy corners of Venice Beach, Sugar unfolds - a tale rooted in true events, tracing the life of a young girl scarred by a past that haunts her every step. Sugar, a survivor of a devastating car crash that claimed her entire family, is a young phoenix rising from the ashes of her life, grappling with the ghosts of her past and the harsh reality of her present - living on the streets with her band of misfit friends. Each day is a dance with survival, the melody of her PTSD echoing in her ears. Like countless other homeless youth, Sugar is on the run - fleeing from her past, seeking refuge in the fleeting moments of solace that Venice Beach offers. Yet, the specter of her pain is never far behind, a relentless pursuer in a game where the stakes are her sanity and survival. However, a beacon of hope emerges in the form of Bishop, a compassionate counselor at a youth shelter. A guiding hand in the turbulent sea of her life, Bishop helps Sugar reconnect with her long-lost uncle who has tirelessly been searching for her. But just as she starts to see the glimmers of a new world, her past resurfaces, threatening to shatter the fragile peace she's painstakingly built. Sugar is a poignant narrative of a tormented youth, a journey of self-discovery, and a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It's a story about unmasking one's fears and daring to heal, illuminating the often overlooked struggle of the homeless youth, simultaneously tragic and inspiring.
