Glory (1989)

This is the story of the only all-black regiment in the United States military. Robert Gould Shaw barely survives a major Civil War battle, and he receives a promotion when his body is recovered. An encounter with famed abolitionist and philosopher John Washington Carver helps color his perspective looking forward as he's placed in charge of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment. Finding recruits is challenging to start with, but the regiment faces opposition and racism every step of the way as well. While these men fight for a kinder and fairer nation, the same racism that sparked this war is prevalent in the ranks.
