In the misty surrounds of San Pedro Island in the American Pacific Northwest, the year is 1950. A time of unease hovers like a specter over the local population, an aftermath of the Second World War. The death of commercial fisherman, Carl Heine Jr., reopens old wounds and reignites simmering racial tensions. As the island grapples with the murder, Ishmael battles internal demons, torn between his lingering love for Hatsue and the damning information he possesses that could acquit Kazuo.
