Plot

Set against the startling backdrop of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, "Shooting Dogs" follows the harrowing journey of Catholic Priest Christopher (Sir John Hurt) and idealistic English teacher Joe Connor (Hugh Dancy). Their lives are irrevocably intertwined when the Hutu President's airplane is shot down, igniting a horrifying retaliation by the Hutu militias against the Tutsi population. In the heart of this chaos, they find themselves in the Ecole Technique Officielle, a makeshift sanctuary for over two thousand five hundred Rwandan refugees. With the Belgian U.N. force as their only shield, the school becomes an island of hope amidst a sea of violence, besieged by relentless Hutu militia. However, when the U.N. troops inexplicably abandon their posts, Christopher and Joe are faced with an unthinkable choice. Should they escape to safety, or stand their ground with the thousands of Tutsis on the brink of annihilation? Based on a true story, "Shooting Dogs" is a visceral exploration of humanity's strength and frailty, a stark reminder of the cost of indifference, and an ode to the relentless spirit of survival.
