Plot

In the heart of bustling Portland, Sarah Cain, a self-absorbed newspaper columnist, finds her life abruptly upended when she's called to the quaint, cloistered corners of Pennsylvania for her Amish sister's funeral. The shock of her sister's death quickly morphs into a trial of responsibility as she discovers she's been appointed the legal guardian of her five Amish nieces and nephews. Torn between uprooting her city life and the prospect of scattering the children into the impersonal tendrils of the foster care system, Sarah makes the bold decision to bring them back to Portland, hoping to fashion a new life for them amidst the urban rush. However, as Sarah attempts to blend the simplicity of their Amish upbringing with the complexity of the modern world, she stumbles upon a harsh reality. The urban life she cherishes has coerced the children into surrendering their identities, and she is left to confront the unsettling truth that her motives for bringing them to Portland are far from altruistic. As a columnist, she's been exploiting their unique stories for her articles, leading to a painful sense of betrayal among the children who had believed in her genuine concern. As the veil of secrets lifts and the echoes of indiscretions reverberate, Sarah is faced with a daunting choice: to restore their lives in the serene Amish Country or continue to impose her world on them. This poignant journey of self-discovery and redemption hinges on how deeply Sarah has come to love these children and whether she can bear to let them go, a decision that will shape their lives, and hers, in the most profound ways.
