Deadly Blessing (1981)

In the heart of a stern and insular sect known as the "Hittites" - a community seemingly frozen in time and mirroring 18th century religious fervor - resides the blissfully pregnant Martha. She lives a humble life with her husband Jim Schmidt, an ex-Hittite, nestled within the farming landscape. Their existence is contrasted sharply by their neighbors, the resentful Louisa Stohler and her daughter Faith, who harbor a distinct loathing for the stringent religious order governed by Jim's father, the austere and fanatical leader, Isaiah Schmidt. When a mysterious shadow in the barn triggers Jim's untimely demise in a bizarre tractor accident, the tranquility of their lives shatters. Following a solemn funeral, Martha finds solace in two friends from Los Angeles, Lana Marcus and Vicky Anderson, who arrive to offer comfort and companionship. But this rural refuge soon becomes a breeding ground for the inexplicable when William Gluntz, a local, vanishes, seemingly stabbed by an ethereal shadow. As the plot deepens, Isaiah and the elder Gluntz converge on Martha's farm in search of the missing William. Isaiah then presents an ominous proposal to buy Martha's farm, and when she resolutely declines, he labels her an incubus. From that moment on, a series of strange occurrences plagues the community, and Martha and her friends find themselves at the heart of the eerie disturbances. Meanwhile, Isaiah remains steadfast in his conviction, attributing the unnerving events to the supposed incubus. The stage is thus set for a chilling confrontation that spirals into an intricate web of fear and suspicion, as Martha's tranquil world spirals into a deadly nightmare.
