Plot

In the heart of a tight-knit family resides Mr. Badri Prasad Sharma (Utpal Dutt), who shares his abode with his five children. Among them, only the youngest son, Sunil, affectionately known as Saaheb (Anil Kapoor), and their darling daughter Geeta, also known as Butlie, remain unmarried. As the patriarch of the Sharma family, Mr. Sharma orchestrates Geeta's marriage to a man destined for London. However, the hefty dowry of Rs.50,000/- weighs heavily on the family, pushing them to the brink of selling their ancestral home. Within this familial chaos, Saaheb, the misunderstood black sheep, dwells in his own world, his soul intertwined with the rhythmic dance of football. Despite his fervor for the sport, his journey is marked by constant demotivation from his elder brothers and their wives. The only beacon of understanding in his life is his elder sister-in-law, Sujata (Raakhee), whose maternal affection for him remains unwavering. Amidst the turmoil, Saaheb stumbles upon love in the form of Natasha, adding another layer of complexity to his life. As the financial storm threatens to dismantle their peaceful life, none of the prosperous elder brothers step forward to aid their father. In desperation, the patriarch considers selling their home, a decision that shatters Saaheb. Unable to bear the sight of his father's despair and the possible loss of their ancestral home, Saaheb encounters an opportunity to resolve their financial crisis — a wealthy businessman, Sinha, seeking a kidney donor for his son and ready to reward the donor handsomely. Embracing the ultimate sacrifice, Saaheb decides to part with his kidney, knowingly bidding farewell to his beloved football. When he presents the money to his father, accusations of theft cloud his noble deed, and he is forced to conceal the truth. The family’s ignorance of his sacrifice persists until the wedding ceremony concludes, leading to misplaced blame on Saaheb. It is only then that Sujata unveils the secret behind Saaheb's sudden wealth, shedding light on his profound love for his family.
