Plot

Amid the humdrum life of Plainsboro, New Jersey, high schooler Hal Hefner is grappling with his stutter. On a fateful evening, as his home splits apart with his parents' separation, an unexpected vacuum forms in his school's debate team. Ben Wekselbaum, the revered debater, stumbles mid-sentence at the state tournament, leaving his partner Ginny Ryerson trophy-less. The world shifts on its axis, the ripples of change reaching Hal. In the autumn chill, Ginny, in a surprising move, taps Hal for the debate team, offering him guidance and partnership. His stutter persists, but his determination soars, fueled by a budding affection for Ginny. When the season's first debate arrives, Hal's world is upended yet again. As the state tournament looms, Hal navigates a whirlwind of emotions, grappling with questions that are as complex as rocket science. Is the trajectory of love always smooth, or can it be as unpredictable and challenging as a stuttering debate speech?
