Plot

Yearning for a life less ordinary, the virtuous albeit unlettered labourer, Hermogenes, and his devoted wife, Gladys, abandon their destitute village in Santiago for the promises of Buenos Aires. In the sprawling metropolis, Hermogenes, driven by desperation and the need for sustenance, secures employment in the carnivorous realm of a butcher's shop, owned by the malevolent and deceptive Don Latuada. As Hermogenes delves deeper into the meat trade under the tutelage of his dark-hearted boss, the promise of prosperity is tainted by a chilling reality. The butcher shop chain, under its cloak of normalcy, is a theatre of modern-day slavery, where human dignity is bartered for survival. Through a twisted maze of pressure and extortion, Hermogenes is subjugated, his dreams butchered on the cold slab of exploitation. A sinister narrative of dehumanization slowly unfurls under the bright city lights, as the simple peon is cornered into an existence far from his dreams. The escalating cruelty of his boss, Don Latuada, shadows his every step, building a foreboding sense of impending tragedy. This gripping tale, based on true events, explores the stark contrast between the innocence of aspiration and the harsh realities of life, posing the haunting question - when does one say enough is enough?
