Plot

In the heart of Athens, amidst the humdrum of everyday life, a story of potential and determination unfolds. Rise (2022) chronicles the extraordinary journey of the Antetokounmpo brothers, three Nigerian-Greek siblings, who are hoisted from the shadows of obscurity into the dazzling spotlight of professional basketball. Their parents, Vera and Charles, leave their homeland Nigeria, seeking a brighter future in Greece, where they tirelessly strive to provide for their brood of five while wrestling with the looming specter of deportation presented by a complex citizenship system. In order to survive, the family bands together, selling trinkets and souvenirs to tourists in the vibrant streets of Athens. As the pressures of life mount, the Antetokounmpo brothers find solace and release on the public basketball courts. Despite their lack of formal training, they discover a raw, innate talent for the sport. It’s not long before a talent agent spots this diamond in the rough and the trio daringly decide to chase their dreams all the way to the NBA. Rise (2022) is not just a tale of sporting glory but rather an inspiring story of a family's resilience, their courageous pursuit of a better life, and the transformative power of a shared dream.
