In the quiet heartland of Laurens, Iowa, we meet Alvin Straight, a man of 73 years whose life is as unassuming as the rural landscape. Living on nothing more than his social security, Alvin's days are marked by simplicity and stubborn independence. He navigates life's hurdles with two canes for his failing hips, battles diabetes, endures poor eyesight, and carries the weight of emphysema from a lifetime of smoking.
