In the heart of Vienna, during the grim peak of the Great Depression, we find Hans. Bereft of work, money, and a place to call home, this former taxi driver's life is shrouded in hopelessness. On the verge of surrendering to the unforgiving tide of life, he contemplates ending his own.
However, as destiny would dictate, just as he is about to take the plunge into the icy embrace of the river, a young woman - Anna - mirrors his intention. Her leap into the water serves as a stark reminder of his own despair. With a surge of empathy, Hans, without a second thought, rescues her.
Anna, a mere 18 years of age, embodies the same weariness that has consumed Hans. Their shared desolation forms an unexpected bond as Hans does his utmost to offer solace. No longer able to bear life's burdens, Hans and Anna's lives intertwine, forming a poignant tale set against the backdrop of a world in crisis.
