Plot

In the gloomy winter of 1843, famed British novelist Charles Dickens finds himself teetering on the brink of despair. Despite the past glory of his successful novel, Oliver Twist, Dickens is now grappling with the bitterness of three consecutive literary failures. His personal life is tainted with the strain of mounting family expenses, and his career appears to be in jeopardy. In a desperate bid to reclaim his lost status, Dickens makes a risky decision to write a Christmas tale and self-publish it in under two months. As he embarks on this ambitious journey, Dickens finds his London home invaded by his estranged parents, adding emotional turmoil to his professional stress. The specter of his past looms over him, with painful memories of his financially irresponsible father clouding his mind, leading to a crippling writer's block. In the midst of this internal chaos, Dickens finds himself conversing with his imaginary characters, particularly the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, who embody his personal demons and frustrations. Like a silver ray of hope, Tara, his literate Irish servant, steps in to provide advice, guiding him through the tempest of his thoughts. Drawing inspiration from the bleak realities of London, including a sparsely attended funeral of a wealthy man, Dickens begins to breathe life into his new book, 'A Christmas Carol'. Balancing the ticking clock, his characters' conflicting opinions, and his own personal struggles, Dickens finds himself in a battle of literary wits, racing against time to craft a masterpiece that would ultimately redefine the modern spirit of Christmas. The Man Who Invented Christmas is a riveting portrayal of how one man's battle with his past and present can lead to the creation of a timeless classic.
